Lish Dish: Cubs' Zambrano Throws First No-Hitter in 36 Years!
2008-09-14
Holy shit, he did it! I think those were the first words out of my mouth watching the end of tonight's game. Because I live away from the awesome city of Chicago, I didn't get to see the game due to broadcasting bullshit, except for that last pitch. Oh my God, what a beauty it was! Strike three to strike out Darin Erstad to throw a no-hitter against the Astros. This was the first no-no since 1972. Zambrano's performance was damn near electrifying. It was a strange situation for us as we were playing the Houston Astros in Milwaukee because of Hurricane Ike postponing our Friday and Saturday games. But, as most Cubs fans know, Miller Park is also known as Wrigley Field North. Looking into the crowd you saw a sea of blue and white, even though we were considered the visiting team. I guess you could say we still had home field advantage after all. Zambrano had just been on the disabled list for having discomfort in his shoulder and his first game back was a doozy! He threw 110 pitches, 10 strikeouts, he did walk one and plunked one too. All of this with incredible bat support, we shut out the Astros 5-0. What a fucking awesome game! I love these guys!
The Cubs are my boys of summer and it has been an amazing summer indeed! We've held first place the majority of the year as well has having the best record in baseball for several weeks at a time. Is this THE year? God, I hope so. There are so many before me that have been waiting twice my lifetime to see it happen. Yeah, it's been 100 years, but it's time to stop looking back and appreciate the team we have now. It's been an incredible ride and I cannot wait for October baseball in Chicago!
Watch this moment for yourselves! IT ROCKS!
And yes, this is a picture I took of Carlos at the Cubs Convention this past January… Yea, I'm a total geek, love me! ☺
GO CUBS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
