Amy Off-Air: 10 Years Remembering Matt and...Hope
2008-09-12

I had an idea and it is happening!   Last year during my interview with Judy Shepard for the Queercast, I realized it was almost 10 years since I started hosting on LesBiGay radio. I began this career right before Matthew's murder and I covered daily (from 4-6pm drive-time) the trial of his attackers.

I went to About Face Theatre in February and said, "I want to produce THE LARAMIE PROJECT as a benefit for our About Face Youth Theatre."  The Youth theatre was created as a direct response to his murder and the program has created some of the most moving and challenging queer work I have ever seen.

So it is happening!  I have assembled an all-star benefit reading of The Laramie Project, Tectonic Theater Project’s 2000 hit play (and one of the ten most produced plays around the world). AND my partner Kelli Simpkins and her fellow Tectonic member Leigh Fondakowski will direct a cast of 20 of Chicago’s finest actors with participation as well from members of About Face’s Youth Theatre ensemble.

The full cast - and WHAT a cast it is - includes Will Allan, Patrick Andrews, Annabel Armour, Daniel Bryant, Scott Duff, Deanna Dunagan, Brian Goodman, Elliot Greenberger, Kyle Hall, Ted Hoerl, Ora Jones, John Judd, Patricia Kane, Keith Kupferer, Amy Matheny, Larry Neumann Jr., Kelli Simpkins, Phil Smith, and Penelope Walker, in addition to Youth Theatre members.

The reading is at the Center on Halsted’s Hoover-Leppen Theatre at 7pm, Monday, October 6th, with a pre-show cocktail reception starting at 6pm; Tickets are $75/ $150 VIP tickets guarantee “priority seating”, with all proceeds going to About Face Youth Theatre and the Matthew Shepard Foundation. See About Face’s website for ticket info at www.aboutfacetheatre.com

We will sell out - so get your tickets now!
