Amy Off-Air: Got MILK?
2008-09-08

How do you like our new site? Thanks to the girls at LoveYourWebsite/Materville.

The times they are a changin'.....political conversations abound...we have a black man up for President and a woman up for VP and in less than 8 weeks there will be an election that will change the fabric of our country one way of the other. It somehow feels revolutionary.

I have been living in a theatre the past 6 weeks with an amazing group of artist's telling a story of American tragedy during another revolutionary time in our country. A story that came to national attention in November of 1978 - the mass murder of over 900 people in Jonestown, Guyana who were members of the People's Temple church. You can find more info on my show THE PEOPLE'S TEMPLE playing now thru Sept 28th at www.atcweb.org It is a story you should experience and voices that have been kept silent.

One week after the Jonestown massacre another national tragedy occurred. This time on American soil in San Francisco, California - the assassination of Governor George Mascone and and openly gay city supervisor Harvey Milk. MILK is the upcoming film of that story from director Gus Van Sant starring Sean Penn. Having just told this story in the play EXECUTION OF JUSTICE one year ago with About Face Theatre, I know it is a story that our young GLBT people need to know as well as our straight allies.
