Amy Off-Air: The good girl and the one who is all work...
2008-05-29
I was asked by Kirk Williamson - you know him as the voice of the WCQ news, but he is the guru of Nightspots magazine - to portray all 4 of the Sex & the City ladies for the cover of this week's Nightspots. You can download the issue at www.windycitymediagroup.com. So, I called my gal pal Angelique Munro for the use of her wigs and some clothes to combine with my own. I wanted to try to create my essence of Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha and Carrie. I have always felt that I could identify with each of them and did not really relate to just one of them. When people have asked me in the past, "Which one are you?" it really depends on my mood, the day of the week, and how the wind is blowing. SO - I thought I would let you into my "inner" girls for a bit in the next two blogs. And you have visual aids to boot! Thanks kirk..this was so much fun all around. And Angelique, we could not have done it without you. xo
Charlotte: From the outside, I think most see me as most like her. And to be sure, we took two shots for this picture..it took no time to pull off....and everything I am wearing is mine (down to the ponytail, photoshopped brown of course). I was raised to be Charlotte. My upbringing of good Southern manners, best behavior, china and sterling patterns picked, my first coming out which was my "debutante season," and looking for Mr. Right...that was who I was raised to be. And I don't reject all of it. I still love to keep a good house, write thank you notes, set a beautiful table, go to formal events in a dress, and I find it hard to be a "bad" girl, per se. It is not my default setting, much as I want to be a rebel without a cause. Charlotte is my breeding, my nutured self, my good girl. I have a lot of compassion for her struggles and understand her need for perfection. It has been a driving force and an achilles heel to me. She is warm and optimistic and, most days, I aspire to her finest qualities. So Charlotte - she suits me. And she causes me to buy all the "pink" in my wardrobe. Miranda: Oh, do I relate to her! Driven, professional, no nonsense. My Windy City Media family probably sees this side of my personality most - for good or for ill. I am a workaholic. Why else am I up at this ungodly hour typing this blog???!!! I can work 7 days a week, any hour of the day and wear many hats. I have often based my success on money made, goals set and accomplished, and I like a challenge. However, I spent many years being very bitter when folks would not get on with "my way" of doing things, pessimistic and prone to panic...as I said "driven to a fault." For many seasons on the show, Miranda struggled with being seen as an independent, professional woman without the need for a man. That also screams me. I have many relatives for many years who did not know I was gay but just thought I did not have time for a man. Well, partly true. I am also VERY loyal which to me is very Miranda. Plus I LOVE my TIVO (which Miranda introduced me to in one of the early seasons of SATC). I also love having a house cleaner --- also a Miranda staple.
So tomorrow you will get my inner Carrie and Samantha. Will I tell sex stories? kiss and tell? You will have to check back and see.
